St Mary the Virgin, Layer Marney, Essex, UK
Constructed in the first half of the reign of Henry VIII, this 15th century church is a rare combination of brick and terracotta construction. As part of a recent photo exhibition entitled "Between Word and Image" this photograph of a tudor side door was featured with writings by Rosalind Bennett as follows.
Who does enter
Who does leave
From doors tucked
In corners discreet
Away from rituals
And beliefs
Away from the west
That leads to east
